Prof.  Stark studied psychology at JLU Giessen, where he also obtained his PhD and habilitation. Since 2007, he has been the head of the continuing education program "Psychological Psychotherapy," and since 2012, he has been a professor of psychotherapy and systems neuroscience, as well as the managing director of the Bender Institute of Neuroimaging at JLU. His current research focuses on reinforcement learning, the interaction of emotions and attention, and disorders in the areas of anxiety, addiction, and affect from a systems neuroscience perspective.  His special interest in recent years has been in pornography use disorder with a basic and a psychotherapeutic focus.
